“Your mind is powerful enough to help you obtain whatever you want.” Michael Jackson.
The Power of Manifestation: How Michael Jackson Wrote Down His Destiny
Today, in my attempt to honor Michael Jackson’s legacy and inspire the world through his story, I hold close a powerful reminder from Wayne Dyer, author of The Power of Intention: “Change your words, change your thoughts, and you can change your world.”

“No matter what, the most powerful thing in the world is the human mind, and prayer, and belief in yourself, and confidence, and perseverance. No matter how many times you do it, you do it again until it’s right. And always believe in yourself, and no matter who’s around you that’s being negative, or thrusting negative energy at you, totally block it off; because whatever you believe, you become.” Michael Jackson.
Those aren’t just positive words, they speak a real truth that runs through Michael Jackson’s life and legacy. He understood that words carry energy, that intention leads to action, and that the way we speak to ourselves can either hold us back or push us forward.
Michael inspired us. He awakened something deep inside us. He created change, not just in music and entertainment, but in how we think about healing, personal growth, and what’s possible. He showed us that where we place our attention, we focus our creative power.
“Never give up on your dreams. Don’t let anyone stand in the way. Just go straight ahead because nothing is impossible.”
This principle truly comes to life in Spike Lee’s documentary Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall. Many of you may have already seen it, but if not, I highly recommend you watch it. There’s one moment in particular that profoundly shifted my perspective.
In the film, a handwritten letter from a young Michael Jackson is revealed by Karen Langford, one of Michael’s close friends. Written in 1979, the same year he released Off the Wall, the letter was penned during the Jacksons’ Destiny tour. This isn’t just any letter. It’s a powerful manifestation, a bold declaration of change and transformation that left me deeply inspired.

“MJ will be my new name. No more Michael Jackson. I want a whole new character, a whole new look. I should be a totally different person. People should never think of me as the kid who sang ‘ABC,’ ‘I Want You Back.’I should be a new, incredible actor, singer, and dancer that will shock the world. I will do no interviews. I will be magic. I will be a perfectionist, a researcher, a trainer, a master.I will be better than every great actor roped into one.”
Reading this letter overwhelmed me with emotion. At just 21 years old, Michael Jackson spoke his future into existence. He wrote it down. He decided who he would become, and then he became it.
That, dear readers, is the true power of words.
Michael wasn’t waiting for destiny to find him. He created it. He made a conscious choice to reinvent himself, to break free from the image of being the “kid from the Jackson 5,” and to step into the version of himself that the world would later call the King of Pop. This was long before Thriller, long before the Moonwalk, long before he became a global icon. But the vision? That was already crystal clear.
This wasn’t just about dreaming; it was about speaking, writing, and declaring his future. It was about believing.
Michael’s words in that letter are the very essence of manifestation: aligning belief with action, speaking greatness into existence, and then doing the work to bring it to life.
He didn’t just imagine; he laid out the path:
“I must have the most incredible training system. To dig and dig and dig until I find. I will study and look back on the whole world of entertainment and perfect it. Take it steps further than where the greatest left off.”

“You can’t do your best when you are doubting yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?”
Michael had a clear strategy. He didn’t just admire the greats, he studied them deeply, with the goal of going even further. He had deep respect for the artists who came before him, and his dedication to learning from them was unique. It wasn’t just ambition: it was a true commitment to bettering himself.
Michael’s letter is more than just a glimpse into his mind: it’s a guide to turning dreams into reality. Through studying the greats, visualising his future, and staying dedicated, he became exactly what he dreamed of: not just a performer, but a force that transformed music, dance, and culture forever.
“I know who I am inside and outside, and I know what I want to do. And I will always go with my dreams.”
The beauty of Michael’s journey is that it encourages us to reflect on our own. How do we speak to ourselves? What words are we using to shape our future? Are we giving power to doubt, or are we embracing positivity and possibility?
One of the greatest lessons I've learned from him is this: Believe in your dreams. Don’t just hope, speak them, write them, hold them close. Then work harder than anyone to make them real.
Michael’s work ethic was unmatched. He trained and studied like no one else. But there was also something magical in him, something beyond technique. That magic was fueled by intention, by his words.
He declared who he would become, and then he became it.
It’s a powerful reminder: you have the power to become the person you dream of. Start today. Choose your words carefully. Visualise and manifest the future you desire.
Think about the thousands of words you speak each day, to others, and especially to yourself. They come so naturally, so quickly, that it’s easy to forget the immense power they hold.
Words have the power to create, to make a difference, and to do good. When we learn to respect their impact, we begin to understand how deeply they can shape our future.
Words are one of the most powerful forces for change in our lives. Learn how you can use them wisely, speak to yourself with kindness and reshape your world!
